What to do with a failed task

While creating and testing workflows on the MESA dashboard, you may encounter a failed task on the Activity tab. The workflow will not complete if a failed task occurs. You will need to take a look at the failed task to gather information on why it was not successful and make any necessary changes.

Before taking a look at the failed task, you will want to enable Logging and Logging debug mode and save your changes on the Settings tab of your workflow.

You can be alerted for failed tasks via email. In the Notifications section, enable the alerts, add in your email, and save your changes.

Navigate to the Activity tab of the workflow and locate the failed task. The failed task will be marked with a red circle and inside is the "Fail" text. Here is what this will look like.

On the failed task itself, you can click the link to the right of the red Fail circle (i.e. 61b2996fb8 (Out: Loop)) and this will display more details.

In the Error row, you will see a message related to why the task has failed. 

In the Actions row, you can click Replay Task to replay the task. Since Logging and Logging debug mode are enabled, you may see more information related to the failed task appear. This information will show up in the Logs tab. You can click on View Logs to direct you to this tab.

You will see a chronological list of the steps taken by the workflow. The steps with the red Error tag will be the most important to review.

This may help you understand why the task has failed and help you determine what changes need to be made on the workflow.
